Hippie ＃3

I have a list for items I look for when I go to the thrift store. Unfortunately, I haven’t been successful the last times I went there hunting for things. However, I found an additional yarn (dark orange) for my hippie sweater in the thrift store yesterday and bought two balls although yarn hasn’t been on the list. The yarn isn’t the same brand but almost identical.

Ich habe eine Liste von den Dingen, nach denen ich im Brocki suche. Leider war ich nicht gerade erfolgreich die letzten Male, als ich dort war. Immerhin, ergatterte ich zwei Knäuel Baumwollgarn, obwohl das nicht auf der Brocki-Liste steht. Das dunkle Orange passt aber bestens in die bereits breite Farbpalette. Das Garn ist nicht die gleiche Marke, aber fast identisch.

Now to my work in progress, which is quite challenging: The progress is described best as “try and error”. There is much error involved and I have to frog a lot. I ended up going for red after the turquoise after trying white and pink. I also chose a different pattern. Now the sleeves are both finished and I’m already crocheting small parts of the front and back. 

Nun aber zu meinem Werk, das langsam Fortschritte macht. Der Prozess kann am besten mit “Versuch und Irrtum” beschrieben werden. Viel Irrtum, denn ich muss oft auftrennen.  Ich habe mich schliesslich für rot nach dem türkis entschieden nach zwei Versuchen mit weiss und rosa. Die Ärmel sind jetzt fertig, und bereits häkle ich kleine Teile für Rücken- und Vorderteil. Doch davon das nächste Mal.

Hippie ＃1

Und plötzlich war es ganz einfach. Ich habe einfach angefangen; einen Knäuel aus dem Körbchen genommen und losgelegt. Erwartet hier keine Anleitung für einen Hippiepullover, aber ihr dürft gerne meinen Fortschritt mitverfolgen. Vielleicht motiviert euch das, gleichzeitig mit mir zu draufloszulegen. Einen Plan habe ich nicht wirklich, obwohl ich vor einiger Zeit ein Muster gezeichnet habe. Ich habe jedoch gemerkt, dass es vorallem für die Grössenangaben dienlich ist. Also ist rollende Planung angesagt. Ideen habe ich genug.

It has been easy eventually. I just started with the first ball from my basket. Don’t expect to find a tutorial how to crochet a Hippie sweater here, but you are invited to watch the sweater grow. You might be motivated to crochet along. Actually, I don’t have a real plan althought I draw a pattern a while ago, which is very useful for measurements. Otherwise I’m going with my guts, which is a hippie thing to do, I guess.  

Trotzdem ein paar Angaben – At least some information

Das Garn ist 100 % Baumwolle, heisst Linea 11 ALPHA von ON line, gekauft habe ich es bei Buttinette. Mir gefallen die leuchtenden Farben der grossen Palette. Im ganzen habe ich 13 Knäuel à 50 Gramm gekauft. Mal schauen, ob es reicht.

The yarn is 100 % cotton, its name Linea 11 ALPHA von ON line. I’ve bought it at Buttinett. What I especially like are the bright colours and the wide range of colours. I’ve bought 13 balls, 50 gramms each. Hopefully, this is enough. 

Aus meinen Kisten kommen je ein Knäuel rosa, rot und schwarz dazu, die alle drei etwa mit der gleichen Nadelstärke gehäkelt werden. Auf der Etikette steht 3.5 mm, ich nehme aber 4 mm, weil mich die Maschenprobe zu hart dünkte.

I’m using a bit from stash: a light pink, red and black. All three yarns are cotton, about the same weight. It is suggested to use a 3.5 mm hook, but I take a 4 mm one as the gauge has been too stiff for my taste. 

Schritt ＃1 – Step ＃1

Ich habe mich entschlossen, mit den Ärmeln zu beginnen. Vier Granny Squares (pink, olive, blau und violett), fortlaufend zusammengehäkelt ergeben nun einen Ring, der 24 cm Umfang hat, also genug Weite für den Unterarm oder das Handgelenk bedeutet.

I started with the sleeves. Four granny sqaures  in the colours pink, olive, blue and purple, 3 rounds, joined as you go. The band measures 24 cm in the round, which is enough around the wrist or forearm.

Brothers – Brüder

Fritz and Franz were playing football with my yarn making a lot of noise until I told them to go playing outside. It’s what you do with active and lively kids, don’t you? 

Fritz und Franz trieben mich in den Wahnsinn. Nichts als Unsinn im Kopf, wie zum Beipspiel meine Wollknäuel als Fussbälle zu verwenden. Da habe ich sie zum Spielen nach draussen gejagt.

Feeling Lonely – Eins und eins macht zwei

Es ist ja kein Geheimnis mehr, dass ich gerne zwei von allem mache. Im Moment sind das zwei rote Jäckchen, zwei violette Rüschenschals, beide fertig. Die erste Ausgabe ist jeweils dem Ausprobieren und Kennenlernen gewidmet, die zweite Ausgabe dem Spass, weil ichs schon kann und es dann ohne Mühe viel schneller geht.

Nur Franz ist einmalig, es gibt nicht zwei davon. Jedoch hat mir Franz eben anvertraut, dass er sich einsam fühle und gerne einen Bruder hätte. Und jetzt häkle ich also noch einen Fritz. Übrigens haben wir FERIEN!

It’s not a secret that I like making two of a kind. This means two red baby cardigans, two purple ruffle cwols (both finished). The first edition is dedicated to trying and getting to know, the second focusses on fun. Due to the know-how everything goes smoothly and quickly. 

Franz on the other hand is unique. There aren’t two of him. But Franz told me that he is feeling lonely and wishes he had a brother. Now I am crocheting Fritz. By the way, I’m on vacation. Yes!

May I Introduce: Franz – Darf ich vorstellen: Franz

Ich war mir sicher, dass ich mir auch eine Katze häkeln könnte, als ich eine solche vor einer Weile irgendwo gesehen habe. Was eine Katze zu einer Katze macht, darüber habe ich auf dem Blog schon einmal geschrieben. Also nichts wie los.

I saw a crocheted cat a while ago and fell in love. I was thinking of the animal all the time. I was sure to be able to make on myself. I’ve written about what makes a cat a cat.

Firstly, the pointy ears.

Secondly, a long tail.

Thirdly, green eyes.

Finally, a nice smile.

May I introduce? This is Franz.

Mis(c)hmas(c)h

I had these IKEA stools stored in the attic. Now I’ve given them a second life using yarn from stash. Unfortunately, they are not the most comfortabel chairs but I think they are useful as little tables to put a folder down while paying bills or doing the taxes (what we did last weekend. Finally). Stashbusting! 

Diese IKEA Hocker fristen ein tristes Dasein im Estrich, bevor ich ihnen ein zweites Leben einhauchte. Sie sind zugegeben nicht die bequemsten Stühle, aber als Beistelltisch tun sie gute Dienste, wenn ich zum Beispiel Rechnungen bezahle oder die Steuererklärung ausfülle (das haben wir übrigens am letzten Sonntag geschafft. Yes!). Und Wolle aufbrauchen konnte ich auch.

Das zweite rote Jäckchen ist noch nicht ganz fertig. Es fehlen nur noch ein paar Runden am zweiten Ärmel. Zudem muss ich noch einen Knopf kaufen. Leider ist es sehr unregelmässig gestrickt, was mir einmal mehr zeigt, dass harte, unelastische Baumwolle viel schwieriger zu verstricken ist als Wolle. Das gute Stück kriegt nun erst eine Feinwäsche, was die Unregelmässigkeiten ausgleicht. Die Papierblume, eine Sonntagsbastelei, wird heute verschenkt. Für die Papierblume habe ich eine Anleitung mit Fotos geschrieben, falls ihr interessiert seid.

The red baby cardigan is not completed yet. There are only a few rows left on the secons sleeve. As you can see, it’s a rather wonky knit, which makes me realise once more that cotton is really hard to knit with. I must give the cardigan a slight wash to egalise the stitches. The paper flower is a Sunday afternoon project and is going to a friend whose birthday is today. I wrote a tutorial for the paper flowers if you are interested.

Wartezeit nutzen – Waiting for Spring

Während ich darauf warte, dass der Frühling richtig kommt und uns nicht nur zeukelt (ist das ein deutsches Wort?), was meiner Laune schadet, vertreibe ich mir die Zeit mit vier Arbeiten:

While waiting for spring to come really (not only teasing us), I have four projects to keep myself in a good mood:

1. Das zweite rote Kinderjäckchen / The red baby cardigan

2. Drei Hockerüberzüge (zwei sind fertig, der dritte fast) / Three stool covers (two are already finished)

3. Der Hippiepullover (Muster zeichnen ist der erste Schritt) / The hippie sweater (drawing the pattern)

4. Auf dem Blog eine neue Seite erstellen, auf der die Links mit Bild zu den vielen Anleitungen zu finden sind, die ich im Verlauf der eineinhalb Jahre geschrieben habe.  / Adding a new page on the blog for the many tutorials I wrote during the last one and a half years.

Passend zur Warterei der zweite Hockerüberzug in Gelb (Sonne), Rot (Flora) und Blau (Himmel), alle drei vermisse ich sehr.

I’ve chosen yellow (the sun), red (flowers) and blue (sky), three things I miss very much.

Zum Muster aller Art zeichnen verwende ich Werbeposter aus unserem Dorfladen, dir für mich beiseite gelegt werden. Es ist grossformatiges Hochglanzpapier in bester Qualität, das ich für alles Mögliche eignet, wie Plakate im Schulzimmer, Zeichenpapier für Kinder, Spielpläne. Ich rate euch, fragt im Lädeli, ob ihr die Plakate haben dürft.

I always use posters from the local grocery store (thank you for haning them to me) to draw patterns. It’s heavy paper and it would be a wast to throw them away without using a second time. I like the big format and the quality. I highly recommend you to ask in your local store for the posters. You can give it your children for drawings, playcards or use it in school for grammar rules, vocabulary, sayings etc.

What’s First? – Was kommt zuerst?

We are leaving again tomorrow, what I am looking forward to enormously as we are enjoying hot springs in Leukerbad for three days.  It might prevent me from freezing to death without letting me die of a bad oecological conscious. The hot water is a very generous gift from mother earth.

The weather forcast is not good at all, which leads to taking a bit of work with me (grading papers) and thinking of a nice knitting or crochet project. Because I wasn’t in the mood of yarn shopping this afternoon, I checked the internet whether there is a yarn store in Leukerbad. And yes, there is. Instead of buying the yarn first and then looking for the suitable needles and hooks, I’m packing the needles and hooks and will then go and look for a suitable yarn. The only thing I know is that I want to knit a red sweater for a two or three year old. There are some lovely pants and dresses in the store that might look even better with a matching garment.

Just in time I finished the stash-buster project Nr. 5, the leftover sockyarn blanket. Its weight is 420 gramms. I wrote about the pattern here, and the progress here.

Morgen fahren wir schon wieder weg, worauf ich mich enorm freue, da wir in den heissen Quellen in Leukerbad hoffentlich vergessen, dass es winterkalt ist. Hoffentlich bewahren mich die Thermen vorm erfrieren. Zudem werde ich auch nicht an einem schlechten Oekogewissen sterben, denn das viele heisse Wasser sprudelt aus dem Schoss von Mutter Erde. Ein wunderbares Geschenk.

Die Wettervorhersage ist noch immer alles andere als erfreulich, weswegen die Wanderung in den Schnee fällt. Dafür machen sich Gedanken an Arbeit (eine Prüfung korrigieren) und eine nette Strickarbeit breit. Weil ich heute Nachmittag keine Lust hatte, Wolle zu kaufen, schaute ich im Internet nach, ob es in Leukerbad ein Wollgeschäft gibt. Und tatsächlich, da gibt es eines. Deshalb werde ich nicht wie gewöhnlich zuerst die Wolle kaufen und dann die passenden Stricknadeln heraussuchen, sondern Stricknadeln einpacken und passende Wolle dazu kaufen. Ich weiss einzig, dass ich einen roten Kinderpullover für etwa 2 oder 3 Jahre stricken möchte, denn bei uns im Laden haben wir lustige Hosen und Kleidchen, die mit passender Oberbekleidung noch viel schöner aussehen.

Gerade rechtzeitig konnte ich heute die Wollrestendecke zu Ende bringen. Es ist stash-buster project Nummer 5 und hat 420 Gramm Wolle verzehrt. Über das Muster habe ich hier geschrieben, über den Fortschritt hier.

Es wird nicht weniger – Less or More?

Die Sockenwolle nimmt und nimmt nicht ab. Es dünkt mich sogar, da liege immer mehr in der Kiste. Aber vielleicht lass ich mich optisch täuschen, denn die Decke wiegt immerhin 350 Gramm. Der Plan ist nun, heute noch alle Kleinstknäuelchen in die Restendecke einzuhäklen. Dann muss sich das Wolllager verkleinert haben.

There is still a lot of yarn in the box. Actually, it seems the stash does not shrink. However, I might be wrong as it is proven that the blanket is 350 gramms. Anyway, I’m going to crochet all the tiny balls into the leftover blanket tonight. Then there must be less yarn afterwards.

The End of White – Das Ende von Weiss

I finished the snowblanket. Ta dah! Let’s hope this is the last day of winter. Today we are off to Colmar in France for three days. Hope to see you well when I am back. 

Schneedecke ist fertig. Ta dah! Hoffen wir, dass heute der letzte Wintertag ist. Heute fahren wir nach Colmar für drei Tage. Ich hoffe, euch alle wohlbehalten zu sehen, wenn ich zurück bin.
