This is not at all easy for me at the moment. But I’m trying nontheless.

I have two finished objects to show you today which is a great feeling because there are other projects waiting. The cat walks on velvety paws. Her name is just “Chatz” for now, althought there were two suggestions: Agatha and Olivia. Thanks , but I just know that I won’t be able to stick to a name anyway. If you want measurments of the cat, click here. I drew a cat on a big piece of paper making her round that she would fit around my neck.

Here is my second finished project: The stash-buster challenge 2013 shawl made of leftover sock yarn that I took doubled. The scarf is 2.4 metres long, and I can wrap it three times around my neck . There is still a lot of sock yarn left, and I am thinking of making arm warmers in the same colour scheme. We will see. First priority has a pair of socks as I am joing a kal, and my son has cold feet. I’m not sure about the colour for the socks yet … Unfortunatelly, he does not like them multi coloured and mismatched so they won’t be a stash-buster. Although I remember having black yarn somewhere in a basket ….

Now, let me have a look at other finished objects at Tami’s and than go back to the Ajour sweater. It’s growing too.

Stash Busting – Aufbrauchen, bevor neu kaufen!

Usually I knit my socks very simply because I like knitting while watching a movie. Furthermore I only wear woolen, handmade socks. They are nothing special to me and don’t have to be eye-catching. I never think of a pattern, only the colour matters. I’ve chosen green for my last pair of socks, that I call January13. They are finished, and I am looking forward to wearing them tomorrow.

With my pair of socks finished I lack an easy knit, because the Ajour sweater, that I’m very happy to have taken up again, needs my full attention, and is therefore not at all qualified for a movie-knit.

Should I make another pair of socks? I have lots of leftover yarn, actually a whole box of sock yarn, that testifies my sock knitting activity of the last 20 years or more. Luckily, I happned to come across “stash-buster challenge 2013″ at Linda’s crafty corner. What a great help to use up the stash.

I’ve been thinking about how I would do it, and have decided to follow topics. Firstly I’m going to use sock yarn, secondly, the baby yarn, thirdly, the red yarn …

Now, on to the sock yarn and an easy pattern. I’m making a scarf. Here are the first rows. 28 Stitches, doubled yarn, needles 4.5 mm, garterstitch. I’ll keep you up-dated.

Normalerweise stricke ich ganz einfach Socken, denn ich liebe, am Abend gemütlich einen Film zu schauen und dazu die Nadeln klappern zu lassen (ja, Metallnadeln sind mir immer noch die liebesten). Zudem trage ich nur selbstgestrickte Wollsocken. Sie sind nichts spezielles für mich und müssen deshalb auch nicht Blickfang sein. Ich denke nie über ein Muster nach, nur die Farbe ist entscheidend. Für meine neuesten habe ich grün gewählt. Gestern sind sie fertig geworden und ich freue mich darauf, sie morgen zum ersten Mal anzuziehen.

Jetzt da die Socken fertig sind, fehlt mir das einfach Strickzeug. Ich bin zwar glücklich, dass ich Arbeit am Ajourpullover wieder aufgenommen habe, aber er ist überhaupt nicht zum Flimmern geeignet, weil ich mich ohne Unterlass aufs Maschenzählen konzentrieren muss.

Soll ich nun ein anderes Paar Socken anschlagen? Ich habe ja eine ganze Kiste voll Sockenwolle, die von meinen Sockenstrickaktiviteäten in den vergangenen 20 Jahren zeugt. Zufällig habe ich dann in “Linda’s crafty corner” den stash-buster challenge 2013 entdeckt. Eine grosse Hilfe, den ungenutzten Vorrat aufzubrauchen.

Ich habe mir selber Themen auferlegt. Als erstes werde ich nun Sockenwolle aufbrauchen, zweitens die Babywolle, drittens alle rote Wolle … Und ich lasse euch wissen, wie ich voran komme.

Und nun, Sockenwolle und ein einfaches Projekt. Angschlagen sind 28 Maschen für einen bunten Schal, Wolle doppelt genommen, Rippchen, Nadeln Nr. 4.5.

Do It Yourself!

Es ist mal wieder Zeit für ein Experiment. Einerseits ruft das durch die Ferien geleerte Portemonnaie danach, andrerseits meine Konsumübersättigung. Nach den vielzähligen Anschaffungen der letzten Wochen, bin ich es müde, Geld auszugeben. Ich werde also ab sofort für zwei Monate nur das absolut Notwendige kaufen, was sich auf Lebensmittel, resp. Frischprodukte beschränken wird. Also keine Schuhe, kein Handcrème, keine Kleider und keine Schnäppchen im Brockenhaus. Zum Glück liegt noch Knäuelweise Wolle und viel Stoff herum, so dass ich auf meine handwerklichen Tätigkeiten nicht verzichten muss.

Mein Vorsatz wurde gestern Sonntag schon auf die Probe gestellt, habe ich doch im Zug in der Eile (Wattwil war zu schnell erreicht) mein i-Phone- und das Brillenetui liegen lassen. Neue Gehäuse für Nasenvelo und Smartphone zu kaufen, kommt bei meinem schmalhansigen Vorsatz natürlich nicht in Frage. Da bleibt nur selbermachen.

Mit Filzwolle (Feltro), Reste von meinen Fudiwärmern, die ich im Winter gehäkelt habe, 33 Maschen auf Rundstricknadeln Nr. 6 anschlagen und 25 cm hoch stricken, abketten, Fäden vernähen und auf einer Seite zunähen. Dann wird das Täschchen mit Wäsche zusammen bei 60 Grad gewaschen und kommt … zu gross heraus. Filzwolle schrumpft zwar um ca. 30 bis 40 Prozent ein, wodurch die Berechnung natürlich schon mal daneben gehen kann.

Diese i-Phone Hülle ist übrigens eine einfache Arbeit fürs Rundstricken im textilen Werken. Nach dem Verfilzen sieht man nämlich auch Fehler nicht mehr. Den zweiten Versuch habe ich dann mit 30 Maschen gemacht. Und nun passt es perfekt, aber ich habe gemerkt, dass ich die erste Hülle nur mit 40 Grad gewaschen habe. Vielleicht passt sie dann doch noch. Sie gefällt mir nämlich besser.

Was das Geld Ausgeben betrifft, ob das Experiment wunschgemäss läuft oder ob nicht, darüber werde ich euch auf dem Laufenden halten … Guten Montag wünsch ich!

It might be time for another experiment. On the one hand the purse is quite emty after the holidays, on the other hand I’m a bit fed up with spending money and buying things. I plan not to buy anything except food which is absolutely necessary for two months. This means fresh produce like dairy, vegetable and fruit. Fortunatelly, there are black berries and apples ready to be picked and beans, salad and turnip in my garden. There is also much yarn and fabric in my stash so I don’t have to restrain my creativity.

My personal resolution was already tested today. I lost both the case for my i-phone and glasses in the train because we had to hop off in a hurry. Now there is only one way to get new ones, making them myself.

Cast on 33 stiches with felting yarn (feltro, leftovers from the chair cushions I made last winter) using 6 mm dpns, knit round after round until the piece mesures 25 centimetres, cast off, sew in the ends, and sew one side of the purse together. Now put it in the laundry, wash it hot (60 degrees Celsius). It turned out too big! Felting wool shrinks about 30 to 40 percents, which is quite unprecise. So I casted on a second one making 30 stitches. And now it’s fit. Later I noticed that I had washed the first case with only 40 degrees Celsius. It might fit after the second washing, which would be nice because I like it better.
