In Need of a Name – Newport Memories

Standard

You may have seen the colours I had chosen for the border of my triangular shawl. Well, I changed my mind and started the first row with an orange yarn I had brought home from Newport, Rhode Island four years ago. I had almost one ball (50 gr.) left.

While crocheting away, I found a name for my project: Newport Memory, as I spent three weeks at Salve Regina University and often think about that wonderful and interesting time.

Start with chain 23

First row: 20 dcs

Second row: chain 4, into the first dc: 2 trcs and 1 dc. 9 dcs, chain 1, 9 dcs. Into the last dc crochet 1 dc and 2 trc.

Third row: chain 4, into the first trc: 2 trcs and 1 dc. dcs into each trc or dc. Into the chain 1 loop: 1 dc, chain 1, 1 dc. 1 dc into each dc or trc. Into the last trc: 1 dc and 2 trc.

And so on, and so on

There was a dent in my shawl which I filled up with a row of single, half double, double, half treble and treble crochets. I tried a few times until it looked satisfying.

On each side of a row  I increased with 2 trebbles and a double crochet into the first treble crochet. In the middle there are always a double, chain 1, a double crochet in the chain 1 space, no matter which pattern, colour and yarn.

Now some informations on the border. I just crocheted what I thought looked good: One row of black double crochets after the orange (three double crochtes together, chain 1, miss a double crochet form the row before). Make two double crochets into the chain 1 space. 1 row of treble crochets (right side).

Change to yellow (do not turn, start again on the right side of the shawl): Stitch around the post of the black trebles that you can see the v-shaped stitches on the right side. Turn the shawl and crochet double crochets the next row (left side).

1 row of black: Turn. Half double crochets around the posts that you can see the v-shaped stiches on the right side (right side). Do not turn.

Change to purple: 1 row of double crochets (right side). Turn. 1 row of treble crochets (left side). Turn.

1 row of violett double crochets around the posts of the purple ones that you can see the v-shaped stitches on the right side. (right side). Do not turn.

1 row of black double crochets around the posts that you can see the v-shaped stitches on the right side. Do not turn.

1 row of orange: Two double crochets into one. chain 1, two double crochets into one, chain 1 and so on. Turn.

1 row of single crochets. Two scs into the chain 1 space. Turn.

1 row of yellow (right side): Double crochet into one violet sc from the row before, 1 treble crochet into the space of the orange row. Do not turn.

1 row of black double crochets around the post that you can see the yellow v-shaped stitches on the right side. Do not turn.

1 row of green (right side): 1 half double crochet into one black dc. 1 treble crochet into the yellow stitch. 1 half double crochet into a black stitch (miss one). 1 double crochet in the same yellow stich. 1 half double crochet into a black stitch (miss one). Turn.

1 row of green half double crochets around the posts that you can see the v-shaped stitches on the right side. Turn.

1 row of black: 1 half double crochet, chain 1 (miss one stitch from the row before) and so on.

Pompom edge can be seen often at Babajeza’s. Here. Here. Here.

Aber die Häkelsprache gefällt mir, turn, and so on 🙂
