Mis(c)hmas(c)h

I had these IKEA stools stored in the attic. Now I’ve given them a second life using yarn from stash. Unfortunately, they are not the most comfortabel chairs but I think they are useful as little tables to put a folder down while paying bills or doing the taxes (what we did last weekend. Finally). Stashbusting! 

Diese IKEA Hocker fristen ein tristes Dasein im Estrich, bevor ich ihnen ein zweites Leben einhauchte. Sie sind zugegeben nicht die bequemsten Stühle, aber als Beistelltisch tun sie gute Dienste, wenn ich zum Beispiel Rechnungen bezahle oder die Steuererklärung ausfülle (das haben wir übrigens am letzten Sonntag geschafft. Yes!). Und Wolle aufbrauchen konnte ich auch.

Das zweite rote Jäckchen ist noch nicht ganz fertig. Es fehlen nur noch ein paar Runden am zweiten Ärmel. Zudem muss ich noch einen Knopf kaufen. Leider ist es sehr unregelmässig gestrickt, was mir einmal mehr zeigt, dass harte, unelastische Baumwolle viel schwieriger zu verstricken ist als Wolle. Das gute Stück kriegt nun erst eine Feinwäsche, was die Unregelmässigkeiten ausgleicht. Die Papierblume, eine Sonntagsbastelei, wird heute verschenkt. The red baby cardigan is not completed yet. There are only a few rows left on the secons sleeve. As you can see, it’s a rather wonky knit, which makes me realise once more that cotton is really hard to knit with. I must give the cardigan a slight wash to egalise the stitches. The paper flower is a Sunday afternoon project and is going to a friend whose birthday is today. I wrote a tutorial for the paper flowers if you are interested.

Hot Springs And A Red Cardigan – Heisse Quellen und ein rotes Jäckchen

Hier in Leukerbad beginnen die Felswände gleich am Dorfrand, was ziemlich beeindruckend ist. Es ist auch ziemlich beeindruckend, im Bikini im warmen Wasser zu treiben und den Blick hinauf in die Schneeberge schweifen zu lassen.

Here in Leukerbad , a hot spring mountain resort, the mountains start just behind the village, which is quite impressive. It’s also very impressive to look up into the snow covered peaks while wearing a bikini and drifting in the warm water of the Burgerbad.

Der Kurzbeschrieb unseres Kurzaufenthaltes hier im Kanton Wallis: Aus dem Bett zum Morgenessen, zurück ins Zimmer zur Strickarbeit (and den Compi, um eine ICT-Werkstatt zu schreiben), ins Dorf zum Kaffeetrinken, zurück zu Strickarbeit resp. Computer, kurzer Spaziergang zum Mittagessen, zurück ins Zimmer zu Strickarbeit und Compi, ein kurzer Spaziergang zum Burgerbad, zwei Stunden im warmen Wasser aufwärmen und müde machen lassen, zurück zu Strickarbeit und Compi, kurzer Spaziergang zum Abendessen, Spaziergang durchs Dorf, zurück ins Hotel und ins Bett. Fazit: Es ist sehr erholsam und überhaupt nicht langweilig.

This is the way we spend the days here: Out of bed in the morning and having breakfast. Back into the room and knitting (my husband work or sudoku on the computer), short walk into the village and having a coffee, back into the hotel room and knitting. Having lunch, back into the room, again knitting or computer for an hour. Then a short walk into the Burgerbad and enjoying the warm water  for about two hours (feeling like newborn). Back into the room having a rest. A short walk and having dinner in one of the restaurnats. Going for a walk through the village and back into the hotel room. Sleeping. To sum up: This is a very relaxing vacation and not at all boring.

Auf einem Spaziergang bin ich tatsächlich am Wolllädchen vorbei gekommen. Die Auswahl war nicht gross, aber ich wurde fündig und habe sechs Knäuel Cotinella von Schulana gekauft. Nun bin ich also fleissig am Nödele und werde heute auf der Heimreise hoffentlich ein gutes Stück vorwärts kommen. Ich stricke ein Kinderjäckchen mit mehr oder weniger langen Ärmeln, das perfekt zu Pluderhosen und Kleidchen passt, die wir im Laden verkaufen.

On one of the walks I actually found a yarn store and bought 6 balls of Cotinella, bright red. I’m knitting alovely Cardigan with cables for a three year old. I hope to finish the yoke on the way home by train today.
