The Earlybird – Ein Winterpullover – 100 % Wool

Während es draussen hudelt und stürmt (leider immer noch kein Schnee) darf ich gemütlich im Haus bleiben und mich meinen hundert Sächeli widmen. Dass ist das Schöne an Ferien, dass ich nämlich nicht aus dem Haus gehen muss. Deshalb stehe ich auch gerne früh auf.

Wie immer hatte ich anfangs Woche eine lange Liste geschrieben, denn nur zu Hause hocken kann ich (noch) nicht, türmen sich im Verlauf der Zeit in einem Haus mit Umschwung bei Vollzeitstelle diverse Arbeiten auf. Von Scheune aufräumen über Schreibarbeiten und kleinen Ausbesserungen zu Flicken und Besuche machen, ist das Programm jeweils bunt. Und, ich habe mir einen schlichten Woll(100%)pullover gestrickt, den ich heute noch zusammennähen werde.  Er heisst übrigens Earlybird.

I’m enjoying to stay in the house very much right now: It’s stormy and wet outside. Thankfully, I have a week off, winter break although there isn’t still any snow. I can see the white mountains though.

I always get up early especially when I don’t have to get up. While everybody is still sleeping I’m drinking a cup of coffee and knitting the last needles of a sweater for myself. Sock knitting has been on hold this week. 🙂

There are still a few things I must do before the weekend: Writing a paper about the last 50 years of the school in our community, for example. And asking someone how she spent the first school day in the new school house in 1974. I’m starting right after a posted picture of my almost finished winter sweater.

 

 

Vasilissa – Stay Cool

The weather has been wonderful the last days. And temperatures are as high as in summer. I don’t mind although the change from cold to hot went very quickly this year. Last week I needed warm woolly sweaters. And these days a t-shirt is too much. We all look for shade. 🙂 

Das Wetter ist wunderbar dieser Tage. Die Temperaturen sind so hoch wie im Sommer, was mir recht ist, obwohl der Wechsel von kalt auf heiss sehr schnell ging dieses Jahr. Letzte Woche brauchte ich noch warme und wollene Pullover, jetzt ist ein T-shirt zu viel. Wir alle suchen den Schatten. 🙂

We get up early in the morning, have a cup of coffee on the balcony and watch the sunrise. It feels like summer break even if I know that the end of the schoolyear brings a lot of work. I try to take it slowly, take one step after the other. No need to hurry because it takes longer in the end. 

Wir stehen am Morgen früh auf, setzen uns mit einer Tasse Kaffee auf den Balkon und schauen, wie die Sonne aufgeht. Feriengefühle kommen auf, auch wenn ich weiss, dass es die nächsten Wochen bis zum Schuljahresede noch viel zu tun gibt. Ich versuche, es ruhig angzugehen. Eile mit Weile, weil Eile allein am Ende länger dauert. 

Housework is done in the early morning hours when it’s still relatively cool. On school free days, I take out the knitting project, which seems too warm right now. However, there will be cooler days sooner or later as usual. By the way, I ripped the red sweater I started a while ago and knit cables instead using slightly bigger needles. I didn’t like the holes. 

Haushaltsarbeiten erledige früh am Morgen, wenn es noch einigermassen kühl ist. Später nehme ich an fschulfreien Tagen mein Strickzeug raus, das sogar ein bisschen warm scheint im Moment. Aber wir wissen alle, dass früher oder später kühlere Tage kommen werden. Ich trenne den roten Pullover mit dem Löchlimuster, den ich vor einem Weilchen angefangen habe, wieder auf. Die Löcher haben mir nicht gefallen. Lieber stricke ich statt dessen ein Zopfmuster. Auch verwende ich ein bisschen dickere Nadeln. Garn oder Wolle? Katia Saigon, hergestellt in Spanien.

And yes, the sweater is made for myself. 🙂 I call it „Vasilissa“ after the main caracter in the childrens‘ book I am writing for a friend. Each day I write a chapter. It’s no surprise that there aren’t many projects to be shown here on the blog. 

Ich stricke den Pulli für mich und nenne ihn „Vasilissa“ nach der Hauptfigur im Kinderbuch, das ich für eine Freundin schreibe. Jeden Tag ein Kapitel. Kein Wunder also, dass es nicht viel Handgefertigtes zu zeigen gibt hier auf dem Blog.

Transformation

Sometimes I feel the urge of making something specific with any obvious reason. That time I needed to sew a sweater. Was it because I felt a bit cold? Was it because I my friend brought back my serger, and I thought if she had brought it back, I should use it?  Was it because I opened a closet and saw the hamper with old sweaters? Was it because I had told a friend that I always was prone to colours? Anyway, I put my knitting project away, and after an hour or so I had created this version of another Babajeza sweater. Then I went to sleep. 

Manchmal geht’s nicht anders, als gerade in diesem Moment eine ganz bestimmte Näharbeit oder sonst etwas Kreatives zu machen. Diesmal brauchte ich urplötzlich einen neuen Pullover. War es, weil ich ein bisschen fror? War es, weil mir eine Freundin meine Overlock-Maschine zurückgebracht hatte und ich dachte, wenn sie das schon getan hätte, ich sie doch benützen sollte? War es, weil ich den Schrank öffnete und darin die Zaine mit den alten Pullovern sah? Item, ich legte mein Strickzeug weg und hatte nach etwa einer Stunde einen weiteren Babajeza Pullover genäht. Dann ging ich ins Bett.

I took out my scisors first thing in the morning and made a few cuts. This is how the sweater looks now. To be precise, I’ve transformed it into a cardigan. 

Am nächsten Morgen zog ich gleich die Schere aus der Schublade und setzte da und dort einen Schnitte an. So sieht der Pulli, der in eine Jacke transformiert wurde, jetzt aus.

Winterschlaf – Hibernation

Ui, es hat Schnee. Dazu schien letzte Nacht der Vollmond. Ich bin heute Morgen ganz früh aufgestanden, denn es war extrem hell draussen, fast wie anbrechender Tag im Sommer. Erst mal hiess es dann Feuer machen, denn die Temperaturen brachten mich ganz schnell wieder in die Realität zurück. Es ist Winter, eigentlich Zeit für den Winterschlaf. Davon träume ich jedes Jahr, nämlich ein Murmeltier zu sein, mich in die Höhle zurückziehen, meine Familie um mich zu scharen. Rücken an Rücken würden wir liegen und uns ganz leise atmen hören. Friedlich.

There is snow on the meadows, the fields and the trees. There was a full moon too last night, and the whole landscape, covered with a cosy blanket, looked very bright. That’s why I got up veeeery early this morning. It seemed like dawn in summer. But then I had to light the fire, because the temperatures brought me back to reality very quickly. It’s winter, which actuallly means time for hibernation (I love this word due to its latin origin). Every winter I dream I was a ground hog, that gathers its family in the den. We all would sleep back against back. Would hear each other breath. So quiet an peaceful.

Nun aber zurück in den Alltag. Freitag ists, der letzte Arbeitstag vor dem Wochenende, der den 1. Advent und Weihnachtsmarkt in Bischofszell bringt. Mir stehen lange Tage im Laden bevor. Deshalb ist es beruhigend zu wissen, dass Pullover Nr. 4 heute in den frühen Morgenstunden fertig geworden ist.

Back to reality. It’s Friday, the last work day before the weekend which means first of Advent and Christmas market in Bischofszell. I have long hours in the store ahead of me. So it is a good feeling to have finished sweater nr. 4 at the crack of dawn.

I hope there will be lots of customers in the store. But if not, I will have a lot of time to look at many finished objects at Tami’s. It would be nice to meet you there.
