Black

There is a similarity between my cat and my knitting.

Both are really hard to be photographed this morning.

I hope that I can finish the hat I am knitting for a friend till tonight. He might like to have it on his head as the temperatures are in the minus. There is a story behind this black hat. Uwe asked me last year if I could knit him a new hat in case tha one he had inherited from his grandfather would fall apart. Of course, I would. I owe him more than one because Uwe is the guy who taught me how to weave a basket.

Now he has lost the hat, which is a bit of a problem as I don’t remember how the hat looked like exactely. Tonight we will see if I’m doing it right. I’m using Regia 6ply, a slightly thicker sock yarn in the blackes black you can imagine. Knitting with black is mostly a sensual task and not visual one. 🙂

Ich hoffe, dass ich heute Uwes Mütze fertig stricken kann. Es ist so kalt, dass er bestimmt froh ist, etwas auf dem Kopf zu haben, wenn wir heute Abend in einer kleinen Feier mit der Bevölrkerung von Affeltrangen das Adventsfenster im Schulhaus öffnen.

Rund um die schwazre Mütze gibt es eine Geschichte zu erzählen. Letztes Jahr fragte mich Uwe, ein Arbeitskollege, ob ich ihm eine neue Kappe stricken könnte, sollte seine, die er von seinem Grossvater geerbt hatte, kaputt gehen. Natürlich würde ich das tun, denn ich schule Uwe mehr als einen Gefallen, hat er mir doch das Perigorflechten gezeigt.

Nun hat er die Kappe verloren, was das Nachstricken ein bisschen komplizierter macht, da ich nicht mehr genau weiss, wie die Mütze überhaupt ausgesehen hat. Heute Abend werden wir sehen, ob ich auf dem richtigen Weg bin. Ich verwende Regia Sockenwolle, sechsfädig, im schwärzesten Schwarz. Stricken mit schwarzer Wolle ist hauptsächlich eine Sache des Gefühls, ich kann nämlich im trpben Winterlicht fast nichts sehen.
