Je me souviens

Da bin ich also mit ein bisschen Verspätung in Montreal gelandet und mit mit Bus und Metro und ein bisschen Glück in meiner ersten Unterkunft angekommen. In den vergangenen zwei Tagen habe ich mich wieder mit der Stadt vertraut gemacht. Oui, je me souviens!

I’ve been in Montreal for two whole days now and I remember the places I was five yeras ago: La Rue St. Catherine, the name of metro stations. Like you can read on the plates: Je me souviens. I’m getting used to taking the metro like an inhabitant of this vibrant city: totally cool, even if I don’t know how on earth you should see the day light again after a ride in the underground tubes. For me as a country pumpkin it’s too much to see, smell and hear. 

Heute zum Beispiel bin ich mit der orangen Linie zur Station Jean Talon gefahren. Die Namen der Stationen kamen mir ganz vertraut vor: Laurier, Mont Royal, Rosemont, Beaubien. Und dann habe ich mich erinnert, dass ich auch schon auf dem Markt war, auch wenn das Angebot damals im Herbst ein bisschen anders war. Violetten, gelben und grünen Blumenkohl habe ich jedenfalls noch nie in meinem Leben gesehen.

I went to the Jean Talon market today, which I remembered too. There are lots and lots of flowers, herbs, vegetables, fruits. There is cheese next to sausages and soaps. 

Blumen, Gemüse, Früchte haben Saison. Im Moment türmen sich Zwiebeln auf Zwiebeln.

I didn’t take a photograph of the millions of tomatoes, but liked these onions so much. They remind me of bald heads with a bunch of hair. 

Auf dem Weg von und zur Metro Station Angrignon führt der Weg durch die Quartiere und einen grossen Park. Oh ja, ich bin viel zu Fuss unterwegs.

On my way to the metro station Angrignon I walk through a lovely park with little lakes. Oh yes, I walk a lot. What to say about the weather? Well, after I had bought an umbrella yesterday morning it stopped raining and hasn’t started raining again. My ultimate advice: Take an umbrella with you because you won’t have to use it.
