Blue – Jeans – Etwas Blaues

Die Jeans zu flicken, bevor sie reissen, schien mir eine gute Idee, zumal mir diese grossen Blumen schon lange im Kopf herumspukten. Ich glaube, im dicken Up-Cycling-Ordner für den Gestaltenkurs klemmt ein Bild von einem Paar beblumter Hosen. Da die SuS und ich morgen Nachmittag also wieder werkeln, kann ich eine neue Idee präsentieren, denn selbstverständlich ziehe ich die Blumenbeinkleider morgen an. Das wird mir den strengen Arbeitstag versüssen.

I’ve played with fabric and mended my jeans before they tore at the knees. No I have another idea to show to the students tomorrow. I am not satisfied how they respond to my ideas. If they had their own ideas that would be good too. But they don’t. I can’t really tell what’s going on with the young people. I know that two lessons of playing with material of all kind would have made me happy at their age. But with my new pair of jeans on tomorrow, nothing can go wrong.

Der Nähspass funktioniert besser, wenn man die einfache Beinnaht öffnet. Blumen auflegen, anstecken und heften, damit sie weniger verrutschen. Ich habe zudem den Obertransportfuss verwendet. Pfaff hat ihn integriert, bei Bernina ist es ein nicht ganz billiger Zusatz, das Geld aber voll wert.

In case you want to try out mending a pair of jeans with patches, open one seam of the leg to do it. It’s much easier because there is enough room to go around with the sewing machine. Afterwards, the leg is closed in no time!

Turtle – Schildkröte

I’m still deep into denim. Before I could even think of doing the real work I had to sew a little bit. Remember? It’s my way of meditation. Anyway, I meditated quite a while until I knew what I wanted to sew. And it took quite some time to make my new friend the way I wanted it to be: The shape of the head, the placement of the legs, the measurments, and finally the look on its face. 

Im Moment heisst mein Programm „dies-anstatt-das“. Konkret hiess das heute Nachmittag, zuerst ein bisschen nähen, bevor die richtige Arbeit losging. Meine Form der Meditation, wie schon erwähnt hier auf dem Blog. Ich meditierte eine Weile über meiner Stoffkiste. Und es dauerte nochmals eine Weile, bis mein neuer Freund so aussah, wie ich ihn haben wollte: Die Kopfform, die Anordungn der Beine, die Masse und schliesslich sein Gesichtsausdruck.

I call the little guy Guy. I think it’s a nice name for a turtle and I love puns. 

Ich nenne den kleinen Kerl Guy. Ein schöner Name für eine Schildkräte. Und freue mich am Wortspiel.

I’m not sure yet whether Guy is a cushioned pouch or a pouchy pillow. Meanwhile Guy is sitting on the sofa for a little longer. 

Ich weiss nur nicht, ob Guy ein gepolstertes Täschchen oder ein Polster mit Täschchen ist. Deswegen liegt Guy noch ein bisschen länger auf dem Sofa.

Es geht weiter – Making Progress

I’m really excited about my little patchwork project. I’ve managed to sew all the squares together by hand so far. This project also taught me again that we learn from mistakes. I wanted to sew along the edges first and then put the squares together. But this didn’t go so well. I had to redo two squares, which I’m not sad about.

Ich bin hocherfreut über meine kleine Patchworkdecke. Es sind bereits alle Quadrate von Hand zusammengenäht. Einmal mehr habe ich erfahren, dass man aus Fehlern lernen kann. Ich wollte nämlich zuerst die Vorderseiten der Quadrate absteppen und sie anschliessend zusammen nähen. Aber das sah nicht gut aus, weshalb ich zwei Quadrate opfern musste. Darüber bin ich nicht allzu traurig. Es ging ganz fix.

Should I use textile glue before sewing along the edges? I ran out of pins anyway and don’t want ot darn the whole blanket.  Have you had any experiences with textile glue? I’d love to hear as I have never used it.

Zum Aufnähen der Ränder habe ich nun zu wenig Stecknadeln. Alles heften? Na ja … ich überlge noch, ob ich Textilkleber verwenden soll. Habt ihr den schon mal verwendet? Welche Erfahrungen habt ihr gemacht?
