Ein Kostüm ist kein Sweatshirt – All Parts Together … But

Nach dem Besuch in Kandersteg habe ich mich heute ans Nähen des Kostüms gewagt. Der Unterrock ist ja schon lange fertig. Was soll ich sagen? – Ein Kostüm ist kein Trainingsanzug. Da wird dir nichts geschenkt.

Während ich am Morgen noch Mist schippte, kam mir der Gedanke, dass ein einfaches Kleid wohl besser zu mir passt, als das schicke Strassenkleid, das ich aus dem Musterbuch ausgewählt hatte. Trotzdem machte ich mich voll motiviert ans Zuschneiden und Zusammenheften des Probestücks, um herauszufinden, ob der Schnitt auch passt.

After my visit to Kandersteg, I got down to sewing the costume today. I finished the petty coat a longt time ago. What can I say? – A costume is not a tracksuit. You don’t get anything for free.

While I was still shovelling manure onto the garden beeds in the morning, it occurred to me that a simple dress would probably suit me better than the chic street costume I had chosen from the pattern book. Nevertheless, I set about cutting and stitching the sample piece to find out whether the pattern would fit.

Zuschneiden ging sehr flott, heften lief auch gut, brauchte nur Zeit. Aber ich hatte ja den ganzen Nachmittag nichts anderes zu tun.

Cutting the fabric went very quickly, stitching also went well, it just took time. But after all the work in the garden was done, I had nothing else to do all afternoon.

Das Rückenteil besteht aus sechs Teilen. Ich war erstaunt, dass sie so gut zusammenpassten, denn so ganz habe ich meinen Schnittmusterzeichenfähigkeiten nicht getraut. Die Ärmel bestehen aus je zwei Teilen. Das Vorderteil hat zwei Einnäher und wird vorne geschlossen. Schliesslich konnte ich die Ärmel in die Armlöcher passen, was ebenfalls erstaunlich gut gelang.

The back consists of six pieces. I was amazed that they fitted together so well because I didn’t quite trust my pattern drawing skills. The sleeves consist of two pieces each. The front part has two seams. The whole piece is closed at the front. Finally, I sewed the sleeves into the arm wholes, which went also very well.

Sieht doch gut aus, nicht? Nur leider ist es viel zu klein und passt weder der Schneiderbüste noch mir. Nun ist guter Rat teuer …. Ich tendiere dazu, ein neues Schnittmuster zu suchen. Vielleicht ist eine Bluse zum Jupe geeigneter? Meine Gedanken am Morgen sind vielleicht gar nicht mal so schlecht gewesen? Oder soll ich allen Teilen Nahtzugaben verpassen und es nochmals versuchen? … Morgen sehe ich weiter.

Looks good, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, it’s far too small and doesn’t fit either the tailor’s bust or me. Now, what shall I do? I’m leaning towards looking for a new pattern. Perhaps a blouse would be more suitable? Maybe my thoughts in the morning weren’t so bad? Or should I give all the pieces seam allowances and try again? … I’ll see tomorrow.
