Reduce-Reuse-Repair-Recycle

Es ist mal wieder Zeit, den Schaukasten in der Schule neu zu gestalten. Ich habe mich ein Thema zum Lehrplan 21 vorgenommen: Bildung für Nachhaltige Entwicklung. Das ist zwar kein Schulfach, soll aber die Bildung sozusagen durchdringen. Deshalb auch in Englisch. Deshalb auch Textiles Gestalten. Deshalb auch ein Wettbewerb, dessen Einreichdatum nach den Herbstferien ist. Ich versuche immer wieder, die Kids hinterm Computer hervorzulocken.

I’m a fan of repairing. It makes me happy to mend clothes. It’s such a good feeling to know I’ve saved resources (reduce), like cotton, water, energy. I don’t want to support fast fashion. Sustainable development is a environmental concern but also a request in the curriculum of public schools in Switzerland. As it isn’t a subject itself, it should be taught in any possible way. Therefore my new show case at the school entrance. Therefore English and textile handcraft, therefore something students can do at home in their free time. I try anything to keep them from the computer screen for a while. 

Man nehme zum Beispiel ein ausrangiertes T-shirt (reuse). Schneide grosszügig die Ärmel weg, schneide den Hals aus, schneide am unteren Rand Fransen. Mit oder ohne Vorzeichnen.

Reuse a t-shirt that is not worth mending. Cut off the sleeves, cut along the neckline, maybe a bit deeper, cut a fringe into the hem. 

Man verknote die Fransen doppelt. Die einfache Tasche ist eigentlich schon fertig, ausser man wolle sie noch verzieren. Da sind der Fantasie keine Grenzen gesetzt.

Knot the fringe to close the bag on the bottom. Your bag is finished, except you would like to decorate it. Of course, there are no limits to your creativity. I’m sure a sweater would work, too. 

Sodeli, jetzt muss ich die Tasche nur noch mitnehmen, wenn ich einkaufen gehe. Mittlerweile habe ich schon ganz viele Taschen, damit ich NIE einen Plastiksack (reduce) verlangen muss. In diesem schwarzen Beutel versorge ich also meine Stoffbälle, die übrigens auch Recycleing Produkte sind.

Meanwhile, I have many cotton bags made from scrap fabrics or outworn clothes. Taking them with me when I go shopping, is the hardest. 🙂 This black bag keeps my wooly balls in check, which are also recycled.
